The Barbary Sheep comes from rocky areas of Sahara and Maghreb. It has been introduced in Spain in the 70’s in the Sierra Espuña (Murcia) for hunting purposes. It demonstrated a quick adaptation to the Spanish climate and habitat, colonizing the surrounding mountains arriving as far as Alicante.
Hunting form: Stalking. For the Barbary sheep, the stalk hunting is used, being the best way to hunt that specie. The Barbary Sheep is a very suspicious and elusive animal, that has a high vision sharpness that allows him to detect the human presence from a long distance.
Hunting area and season: Private lands belonging to the south of Valencian Community and Murcia, where you can practice the Barbary Sheep stalking from the months between September until July, both inclusive. They are natural hunting spaces that for years have been managed so that today they can practice hunting with 100% success assured.
Trophy: Both sexes have beard and curved horns, which in the case of males are only a little longer than in females.
